Ben Franklin Crafts & Frame Shop opened in Bonney Lake in November 1986. That makes November 2026 its 40th anniversary, and it's also the store's last full holiday season. Owner Adrian Taylor told The News Tribune in June that he won't renew the lease at 21121 state Route 410, which expires Feb. 28, 2027.
For four decades, one building on Highway 410 has handled several kinds of errands at once. You could buy Christmas floral picks, a skein of yarn and a canvas there, drop off a print for framing and pick up a coffee next door. After early 2027, those errands split up. Framing moves about a block away. Fabric goes to a few specialty quilt shops. Most of the rest moves farther from the plateau. For crafters, this season is the last one where everything is still in one place.
Forty Novembers on Highway 410
Ben Franklin is a franchise with stores around the region. Taylor owns two of them. The Monroe store his parents ran has been open for 51 years, and he owns that building. Taylor came into the business as owner of the Bonney Lake store, and that's the one that's closing.
In the same interview with The News Tribune, Taylor said several factors drove the decision. Market rents are rising, and February's rent would have gone up. He also cited higher costs for insurance, benefits and taxes over the past five years. He said the landlord had always treated the store as an anchor tenant and offered favorable rates. He also said the business wasn't in a position to be sold to a new owner, so it won't continue under someone else.
The community responded quickly. A change.org petition to "Save Ben Franklin in Bonney Lake" went up on June 7 and has passed 1,800 signatures, but the closure hasn't been reversed. As of its Oct. 28 update, the store's own site still says it will close in "early 2027." It hasn't announced a final day of business, so Feb. 28 is the lease date and may not be the last day the doors are open.
What's marked down right now
The closing sale has already started, and it's built around the holidays. Here is the Bonney Lake sale page as of Oct. 28, 2026:
| Category | Discount off regular price |
|---|---|
| Canvases | 50% |
| Christmas floral | 40% |
| Christmas home decor | 30% |
| Diamond art kits | 30% |
| Plush | 25% |
| All yarn | 20% |
The store calls these in-store offers "while supplies last," and the page doesn't list a schedule of deeper markdowns. Percentages could change between now and your visit, so treat the table as a snapshot from late October.
The timing matters for holiday decorating. Christmas floral and home decor carry the biggest discounts after canvases, and this is the last season they'll be on these shelves. If you make wreaths, centerpieces or mantel arrangements in November, this is your last chance to buy those supplies from this store.
Regular hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store hasn't posted special hours for Thanksgiving week or December yet.
The change that matters most for gift shoppers
Under the store's closing policy, returns and Purple Card points stopped being accepted after Sept. 27, 2026.
That changes holiday shopping. A yarn bundle or diamond art kit bought here this month as a gift can't come back if it's the wrong color or a duplicate. Any Purple Card points left on your account can't be redeemed at the Bonney Lake store anymore either. If you're buying for someone else, it helps to check colors, sizes and skill levels before you buy.
The store's October class calendar still listed regular Bonney Lake classes and events, and it hasn't announced a farewell class. If you've been meaning to take a class here, check the calendar soon.
What stays: the frame shop, the Monroe store and possibly the coffee
Here is what's known so far:
- The frame shop is staying in Bonney Lake. Taylor told The News Tribune it will move to a storefront about a block away on 214th Avenue, likely at the start of 2027. The store's site confirms the frame shop "will remain open and relocate to a nearby location in early 2027." No street number or moving date has been published.
- The Monroe store isn't affected.
- Ben's Espresso is still undecided. In June, Taylor said he hadn't decided what would happen to the coffee shop next door. Its page on the store site was still listing October 2026 drink specials.
The frame shop staying close changes what to plan for. Holiday framing doesn't need to be rushed into the closing-sale weeks, because the shop will keep working from a nearby address. If a framed photo or a finished cross-stitch is meant to be a December gift, ask the frame shop about timing when you drop it off. A move early in the year could affect turnaround times.
Why this closing leaves a bigger gap
When JOANN filed for bankruptcy in 2025, its Puyallup store at 13410 Meridian East was on the company's closure list. A manager there confirmed to The News Tribune that it would close, along with the Tacoma Mall Boulevard store. All of the chain's remaining stores later shut down by the end of May 2025, FOX 13 reported.
That made Ben Franklin the store plateau crafters relied on for the past year and a half. It sold craft supplies, floral, home decor, kids' toys, fabric and yarn under one roof. After early 2027, both of the broad craft stores Bonney Lake shoppers used on the Puyallup side of the valley and on Highway 410 will be gone within about two years.
The nearby shops that are still open are mostly specialists. That works well for quilters and sewists. A painter looking for canvases or a family shopping for holiday floral will have fewer choices close to home.
Where fabric and quilting go next
All four shops below list current hours or class schedules on their own websites.
- Starlit Quilts, Bonney Lake. This is the closest option and also sits just off Highway 410, at 22503 97th St. E., Suite C. Owner Star has done longarm quilting and sold fabric for 15 years. The shop has about 2,500 square feet focused on Moda, Riley Blake Designs, Free Spirit and Wilmington fabrics, and it's open seven days a week. Starlit Quilts also offers longarm service, which helps if you've finished a quilt top.
- The Quilting Fairy, Puyallup. 13507 Meridian Ave. E., Suite O. Fabric and quilting supplies, open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Quilting Fairy is on South Hill, close to where the Puyallup JOANN used to be.
- The Quilt Barn, Puyallup. 2102 E. Main, Suite 102, open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Quilt Barn posts a monthly class calendar.
- Bigfoot Quilts, Auburn. 1425 22nd St. NW, Suite A. A quilting and fabric store with a regular class schedule. Bigfoot Quilts is easiest to reach from the Lake Tapps side of the plateau.
Hours and class schedules change, so check each shop's site before you go, especially around Thanksgiving.
A November and December plan for plateau crafters
Taken together, this season comes down to a few practical steps:
- Buy seasonal supplies now. Christmas floral, home decor and canvases are carrying the biggest discounts at Ben Franklin, and these supplies are the hardest to replace nearby once the store closes.
- Shop carefully for gifts. Returns ended Sept. 27, so anything you buy at the Bonney Lake store this season is a final sale.
- Keep framing on your normal schedule. The frame shop is moving to 214th Avenue, not closing, though asking about turnaround times before the move makes sense.
- Get to know a quilt shop. For fabric, Starlit Quilts is right off Highway 410, and the Puyallup and Auburn shops are a short drive away.
On Highway 410, the store will keep its regular hours until it closes in early 2027.
Our team at Elton Home Team works out of downtown Puyallup and follows local shop openings, moves and closings like Ben Franklin's for neighbors across Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps and Sumner. If 2027 brings a new address and some new walls to fill with framed pieces, we're glad to help. Start Your Home Search with a team that knows these shops by name.
